About Kings Creek Airport

Kings Creek Airport (KCS) is a private airstrip on Kings Creek Station, a working cattle and camel station in the Northern Territory's Red Centre. It serves as a small aviation gateway to Kings Canyon and Watarrka National Park, sitting roughly halfway between Alice Springs and Uluru on the region's touring routes.

The airport has no traditional passenger terminal. It operates as a single unsealed dirt runway used mainly for scenic flights, helicopter tours, private charters and light aircraft, and it can also support occasional emergency and medical flights. Access and landing arrangements are handled in advance with the station, and operations are generally limited to daylight hours.

The airstrip is about 36 km from Kings Canyon and about 2 km from the Kings Creek Station hub. Travellers usually reach the area by road from Alice Springs, around 450 km away on the sealed Luritja Road via the Lasseter Highway, or from Uluru, roughly 266 km to the southwest. There are no public buses or taxi ranks at the airport, so onward travel is normally pre-arranged.

Passenger services are concentrated at Kings Creek Station rather than at the landing ground. The station offers a café known for camel burgers, a general store, fuel, and accommodation ranging from camping to glamping, making the airstrip a convenient entry point for visitors exploring Kings Canyon and the surrounding outback.
