About Kenora Airport
Kenora Airport is a public regional airport serving the city of Kenora, Ontario, and the wider Lake of the Woods area. It is located approximately 9 km east-northeast of downtown Kenora and is classified by Nav Canada as an airport of entry; the facility has been operated by the Kenora Airport Authority Inc. since it took ownership from Transport Canada in 1996.
The current passenger terminal opened in 2018, replacing an aging terminal that dated to the 1940s. The single-terminal building brings check-in, a passenger waiting lounge, baggage claim, airline operations and Canada Border Services Agency customs processing together under one roof. A single asphalt runway, measuring 5,800 by 150 ft (1,768 by 46 m), accommodates scheduled, charter and general aviation traffic.
The airport is reached via Highway 17 East and Airport Road. Downtown Kenora is normally a 10–15 minute drive away, with taxis, private transfers and pre-arranged rental cars available for the short journey. Winnipeg lies roughly 200 km to the west via the Trans-Canada Highway.
As a gateway to Lake of the Woods, the airport serves visitors travelling to area lodges, resorts and outdoor destinations, as well as regional general aviation users. Scheduled commercial flights between Kenora and Thunder Bay are operated by North Star Air, connecting the community to northwestern Ontario's air network.
