About Kalumburu Airport
Kalumburu Airport is a small regional aerodrome serving the remote Aboriginal community of Kalumburu, in the far north of Western Australia's Kimberley region. Located about one kilometre northwest of the community, it provides a vital air link for residents, essential services and visitors in one of the most isolated parts of Australia.
The airport supports scheduled regional services operated by Nexus Airlines to Kununurra, the nearest major town, around 565 kilometres to the southeast by road. This connection is especially important during the wet season, when road access can be cut and air travel becomes a key transport lifeline.
The aerodrome has a compact paved runway used by small aircraft and only basic passenger facilities. There is no multi-terminal complex; check-in and arrivals are handled in a small passenger area, and travellers should arrange onward transport in advance.
Because of the remote location, transport options are limited, with no regular public transport. Pre-arranged community vehicles, charter flights and private transfers are the main ways to continue from the airport to Kalumburu and surrounding areas.
