About Kagi Airport
Kagi Airport is a small remote airstrip serving the village of Kagi and the surrounding Kokoda Track communities in the Owen Stanley Range, Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Situated at about 1,280 metres (4,200 ft) above sea level, the airfield provides an air lifeline for an area with no road access.
The airfield has a single unpaved grass and clay runway of about 447 metres, suitable only for light short take-off and landing aircraft and daylight visual flight operations. Access is mainly by charter flights from Port Moresby, roughly 60 km away, as there is no scheduled commercial airline service.
Kagi is a key waypoint on the historic Kokoda Track, and the airport supports trekkers, mission aviation, cargo and essential supplies for remote communities. Onward travel from the airstrip is on foot along local tracks and the Kokoda Track network.
Facilities are very basic, with a simple waiting shelter and no shops, ATMs or public Wi-Fi. Travelers should be self-sufficient and confirm flights locally, since mountain weather in the Owen Stanley Range can cause delays.
