About Iamalele Airport

Iamalele Airport is a small airstrip on Fergusson Island, part of the D'Entrecasteaux Islands in Papua New Guinea's Milne Bay Province. It serves the village of Iamalele and nearby coastal and island communities that rely on light aircraft for supplies, medical access and transport.

The airfield has a single grass runway of about 900 metres and only a basic shelter, with no formal terminal building. Operations are handled by small short-takeoff-and-landing aircraft on charter or mission flights rather than scheduled commercial services, and flights are highly weather-dependent, particularly during heavy rain.

Located immediately beside Iamalele village, the airstrip is within a short walk of the settlement. There are no road links to the rest of the island or to the regional capital Alotau, which lies roughly 90 kilometres across the sea, so onward travel is usually by foot, boat or pre-arranged local transport.

For visitors, the airport is a remote but practical entry point to Fergusson Island's coastal communities, with very limited passenger services. Travelers should confirm flights in advance and plan to be largely self-sufficient during their stay.
