About Higuerote Airport
Higuerote Airport is a small regional airport serving the coastal town of Higuerote in the Barlovento region of Venezuela's Miranda State. Located in the Sabana de Oro sector at the entrance to town, it functions as a gateway to the Caribbean coast and nearby island destinations.
The airport was reinaugurated in August 2013 following infrastructure work that included a modernized control tower, a new firefighting unit and extension of the runway to 1,200 metres. From early 2014, regional flights to destinations such as Los Roques began operating from Higuerote instead of Simón Bolívar Airport in Maiquetía.
Passenger services run from a single compact terminal that combines arrivals and departures on one level, with a separate area for private and charter flights. Facilities are focused on the essentials, including a small café or kiosk, shaded waiting areas and basic passenger services.
The airport lies roughly 100 km east of Caracas and is reached in about an hour and a half by road via the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho and Caucagua–Higuerote highways. Taxis and private shuttles connect the terminal to Higuerote's town centre, marinas and beaches.
