The airport is owned and operated by Fraser Coast Regional Council and is located in the suburb of Urangan, approximately 10 km from the Hervey Bay city centre.

QantasLink, Jetstar and Seair Pacific operate from the facility, with regular flights linking the region to major cities and to Lady Elliot Island. A runway of around 2,000 m supports jet aircraft operations, following the airport's 2005 terminal and runway upgrade.
