About Hamilton Airport
Hamilton Airport is a regional airport serving Hamilton and the Western District of Victoria, about 12 km north of the town centre and roughly 300 km west of Melbourne. It is operated by the Southern Grampians Shire Council and serves general aviation, charter flights, flight training and emergency services rather than large scheduled commercial airline traffic.
The airport is historically significant as the birthplace of Ansett Airways, founded at Hamilton by Reginald Myles Ansett in 1936. Its passenger building, the Sir RM Ansett Terminal, is named in his honour, and the Ansett Transport Museum is housed in the company's original aircraft hangar.
The single-terminal facility includes a compact check-in area, passenger lounge, restrooms, free Wi-Fi and meeting spaces, with the Hamilton Aero Club also based at the airport. The terminal was upgraded in recent years, and the apron and taxiways have been strengthened to accept larger aircraft.
