About Hakai Passage Water Aerodrome

Hakai Passage Water Aerodrome is a remote water aerodrome on Hecate Island, in the heart of British Columbia's Central Coast. It serves as a seaplane gateway to the Hakai Lúxvbálís Conservancy, Calvert Island, the Hakai Institute research station and a number of wilderness fishing lodges.

The aerodrome lies in the Hakai Pass area, within an archipelago of islands south of Bella Bella that also includes Calvert and Hunter islands. It is roughly 130 km north of Port Hardy and 115 km southwest of Bella Coola, making it an important access point for a largely roadless coastal region.

There is no road connection to the aerodrome. Travelers typically arrive by floatplane from Vancouver or Port Hardy, or by private and charter boats, with seaplanes docking directly at the water landing area.

Infrastructure is limited compared with land airports, and passenger services are minimal. Most travelers pre-arrange onward transport with lodges, researchers or boat operators, which keeps the experience practical despite the remote setting.
