About Haelogo Airport

Haelogo Airport, also known as Suria Airport, is a small airfield serving the village of Haelogo in the Central Province of Papua New Guinea. It lies in the mountainous Owen Stanley Range at an elevation of about 981 metres and mainly supports light aircraft flights to remote communities in the area.

The airfield has a single short runway, 12/30, approximately 430 metres long, and is used for small aircraft operations rather than scheduled international or large commercial traffic. It provides a vital air connection for residents and visitors travelling to villages that have very limited road access.

Haelogo is located roughly 55 km northeast of Port Moresby, but because of the rugged terrain there is no straightforward road transfer between the city and the airfield. Access is typically by light aircraft or on foot along local tracks, so journeys should be planned carefully and confirmed in advance.

Facilities at the airfield are minimal, and travellers should carry essential supplies and arrange any onward transport before arrival. Despite its simplicity, the airport remains an important link for the surrounding Koiari villages and the wider Central Province highlands.

Terminals

Haelogo Airport is a small single-strip airfield rather than a multi-terminal airport. Passenger handling takes place in a basic airfield area with no separate domestic or international terminal buildings.

Ground Transportation Services to and from Haelogo Airport

Transfers

Because Haelogo Airport has very limited road access, onward transfers are normally arranged in advance as light aircraft or walking-track journeys, with vehicle connections made from Port Moresby where roads exist.

Hourly Chauffeur

Hourly chauffeur travel is not available directly at the airfield; travellers needing flexible ground transport usually arrange a chauffeur from Port Moresby for city and regional journeys after connecting flights.

Car Rental

Car rental is not offered at Haelogo Airport, and independent driving to the airfield is generally impractical; 4WD or guided transport is normally organized from Port Moresby.

Bus & Group Transfers

Group transfers to and from Haelogo Airport are uncommon due to the remote setting; group logistics and charter travel are best coordinated from Port Moresby before onward travel.
