Gympie Airport (GYP)

Gympie Airport, also known as Gympie Aerodrome, is a small regional airfield serving Gympie and the surrounding Gympie Region in south-east Queensland. The airport project was approved in 1964, and the facility has since developed into a base for general aviation, flight training and recreational flying rather than scheduled commercial services.

Located at Kybong, roughly 13 km south of the Gympie town centre, the aerodrome has an asphalt runway (14/32) of about 1,400 metres and a shorter grass runway (03/21). It is owned and managed by Gympie Regional Council and is home to the Gympie Aero Club, Sunshine Coast Gliding Club and Gold Rush Skydiving, along with aircraft maintenance and training businesses.

The airport is reached from Lobwein Road and sits close to the Bruce Highway, making it convenient for road connections to Gympie and onward travel toward the Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Rainbow Beach and the Fraser Coast.

As a general aviation aerodrome, it offers practical facilities for visiting pilots including fuel, tie-downs, hangars and club amenities. Travelers using private charter flights or recreational aviation can continue their journey by private transfer, taxi or rental car.
