About Greenway Sound Seaplane Base
Greenway Sound Seaplane Base is a small water-based aviation facility serving Broughton Island and the Broughton Archipelago, a remote group of islands on the Central Coast of British Columbia. It is used mainly by floatplanes operating scheduled and charter services between the coast, Vancouver Island and nearby wilderness lodges.
The base is located on the south side of Broughton Island at Greenway Sound and uses a single water runway, designated 12/30, approximately 1,746 metres long. There is no conventional terminal building; passengers board and leave floatplanes at docks and floats along the waterway.
Access is by water or air only, with no road connection to the site. The nearest larger community is Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island, roughly 45 km away and reachable by floatplane or boat; Port McNeill is also a nearby regional centre.
Although facilities are limited, the base works as a practical entry point for travelers heading to marine resorts, kayaking and cruising areas, and the sheltered waters of the Broughton Archipelago.
