About Gove Airport
Gove Airport is the main air gateway to Nhulunbuy, the Gove Peninsula and the remote East Arnhem Land region of the Northern Territory. The airport commenced civil operations in the 1970s and is operated and maintained by the Nhulunbuy Corporation on the site of the former RAAF Airfield Gove, which was constructed in 1943 during World War II and named after Pilot Officer William Gove.
Today the airport connects the region through Airnorth's Darwin–Gove–Cairns jet service and smaller aircraft flights linking Darwin, Groote Eylandt and Gove, alongside several charter operators and a full-time medical evacuation service provided by CareFlight NT. Its distinctive main terminal is designed in the shape of an aircraft and features an air-conditioned passenger area with an indoor baggage carousel.
The airport sits about 10 km from the Nhulunbuy township, a short drive of roughly 10 to 20 minutes. Outside the terminal, passengers can use taxi and bus collection areas, on-site car rental through local providers and parking for private vehicles and rental cars.
