About Ganges Seaplane Base
Ganges Seaplane Base is a small water aerodrome serving Ganges village and Salt Spring Island, the largest and most populated of British Columbia's southern Gulf Islands. The base is located on Ganges Harbour, about 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) southeast of the main village centre.
The aerodrome is operated by the Salt Spring Harbour Authority and is used primarily for scheduled seaplane and charter services. Harbour Air and its Salt Spring Air operation connect Ganges with downtown Vancouver's Coal Harbour, Vancouver's YVR South terminal and other regional destinations, making it an important link between the Gulf Islands and the mainland.
Passengers check in at the Harbour Air terminal in Grace Point Square, in the heart of Ganges village, before boarding at the nearby Ganges Seaplane Dock. The compact terminal is within walking distance of local cafés, shops and the harbourfront, and taxis and rental cars are available for onward travel.
Because the base has no runway, it is served exclusively by floatplanes and is a convenient air connection for island residents and visitors. Its central harbour location allows travellers to reach Ganges village quickly and continue to other parts of Salt Spring Island or neighbouring Gulf Islands.
