Faro – Gago Coutinho International Airport is the main international airport serving the Algarve, Portugal's southernmost region. Opened in 1965, it was renamed Gago Coutinho Airport in 2022 in honour of the Portuguese aviation pioneer, and today it connects the Algarve with destinations across Europe, particularly during the busy summer season.
Located about 7 km from central Faro, the airport operates a single passenger terminal with arrivals on the ground floor and check-in, security and departure gates on the upper level. It handles both domestic and international flights and separates Schengen and non-Schengen passenger flows.
