About Etadunna Airport

Etadunna Airport is a small, locally owned public airstrip serving Etadunna Station, a remote pastoral lease on the Birdsville Track in far north-eastern South Australia. It is the aviation access point for station operations, charter flights and private aircraft in this part of the outback.

The airstrip sits about 120 km north of Marree, the nearest town, and uses the IATA code ETD and ICAO code YEDA. It has two intersecting dirt runways, 17/35 and 09/27, which are maintained mainly for light aircraft and regional charter services rather than scheduled commercial passenger flights.

The surrounding area has strong outback heritage. Nearby Etadunna was associated with the Bethesda Mission, established in 1867, and the airfield provides useful access near the Cooper Creek flood track, an alternative route used when the Birdsville Track is affected by seasonal flooding.

Facilities at the airstrip are minimal: there is no passenger terminal, on-site fuel or public transport, and landings are generally arranged in advance with station management. It also serves as a landing point for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, supporting the isolated pastoral community.
