Ernabella Airport (ERB), also known by its ICAO code YERN, is a small regional airfield serving the Pukatja community, formerly Ernabella, in the APY Lands of far north-west South Australia. It provides an essential transport link for a remote community in the Musgrave Ranges.
The airfield has a single runway and mainly supports Royal Flying Doctor Service aeromedical flights, charter services and community travel rather than scheduled passenger airlines. This makes it important for health care, government support and visits to the nearby Ernabella Arts centre.
Located about 2 km north of the Pukatja town centre, the airport became more accessible when the airstrip access road was sealed in 2017. Because the airfield lies on Aboriginal freehold land under the APY Land Rights Act, non-traditional owners need entry permits arranged in advance.
Passenger facilities are minimal, with no shops or cafés on site, so visitors should bring their own supplies. Ground transport is usually pre-arranged with community contacts, making the airport a functional regional gateway for approved travel into the APY Lands.
