About Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport
Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport is the certified aerodrome serving Sarnia and Lambton County in Southwestern Ontario. Today it focuses on general aviation, corporate flights, charter operations and flight training, while also acting as a Canada Border Services Agency port of entry for international arrivals. The airport began operations in 1957 using an existing grass runway, and its runways were paved in 1958 when scheduled flights first began. It was renamed in 1997 in honour of Canadian astronaut and Sarnia native Chris Hadfield, and the present two-storey terminal building was constructed in 1983. Located about 10 kilometres east-northeast of downtown Sarnia, the airport is close to Highway 402 and the Blue Water Bridge international border crossing. Road connections make it convenient for travel to the Sarnia waterfront, Lake Huron beaches, Port Huron and other Lambton County destinations. The airport offers a compact, practical terminal with ground handling, fuelling, hangar storage and flight training services provided by on-site fixed-base operators. This makes it a convenient base for private, corporate and charter travel in the region.
