About Chapleau Airport
Chapleau Airport is the public airport serving Chapleau, a northern Ontario community surrounded by forest, lakes and the Chapleau Game Preserve. Located about 4.6 km (2.9 mi) southeast of the town centre, the airport provides a regional link for general aviation, charter, medevac and other local air traffic.
The airport is owned and operated by the Township of Chapleau and is Transport Canada certified, with an Airport Safety Management System in place. The first official landing took place in 1970, the terminal building opened in July 1975, and two paved runways were officially opened in 1979.
The airfield has two intersecting asphalt runways: Runway 10/28 and the shorter Runway 05/23. Its single terminal building provides passenger waiting space, washrooms, a flight planning area and a NAV Canada staffed weather station.
The airport is reached by road along Highway 101, and the short drive into Chapleau gives travellers access to the town's hotels, shops and services. This makes the airport a convenient entry point for people heading to Chapleau itself, nearby lodges, fishing and hunting camps, and outdoor destinations in the surrounding region.
