Benalla Airport (BLN)

Benalla Airport is a small regional aerodrome serving the rural city of Benalla in north-east Victoria. Located about one to two kilometres east of the town centre, it supports general aviation, flight training, private aircraft and the Gliding Club of Victoria, which has been based at the site since 1952.

Operated by Benalla Rural City Council as a Restricted Public Use facility, the airport plays a mainly local and recreational role rather than hosting scheduled commercial flights. Its grass and sealed runways serve light aircraft, gliders, air ambulance operations and charter activity, while Melbourne, Albury and Bendigo airports provide the region's larger commercial connections.

Benalla sits roughly 200 km north of Melbourne on the Hume Highway, about two hours by road, and around an hour south of Albury. The town lies on the Broken River and is a useful base for nearby attractions such as Winton Motor Raceway, Winton Wetlands, Lake Benalla and the Benalla Art Gallery.

The airport is close enough to the town centre that onward travel is short, with local taxis, private vehicles and arranged transfers covering the small distance to accommodation and businesses. Its infrastructure includes hangars, aircraft parking, fuel facilities and basic passenger amenities, with future master-plan proposals aimed at improving the precinct.
