About Bearskin Lake Airport

Bearskin Lake Airport is a small remote airport serving the Oji-Cree community of Bearskin Lake First Nation in the Kenora District of northwestern Ontario. The airport is the community's primary year-round link to the wider region, because the reserve is accessible by air throughout the year and by a seasonal winter road.

The airport opened in the 1940s and today has a single gravel runway and a small passenger terminal. Scheduled regional flights connect Bearskin Lake with Sioux Lookout and other northern Ontario communities, supporting essential travel, freight and medical services.

Located about 6 km (3.5 miles) northwest of the community, the airport is reached by local road connections where available. Ground transportation options are limited, and many travellers arrange a pickup or local transfer with their accommodation, employer or host.

Despite its modest size, the airport plays an essential role in regional mobility for this fly-in community, linking residents with services, supplies and onward connections through Sioux Lookout and nearby northern Ontario destinations.
