About Bambu Airport
Bambu Airport (BCP) is a remote, high-altitude airstrip serving Bambu village in Madang Province, Papua New Guinea. The airport sits at roughly 6,800 ft (about 2,070 m) above sea level and is used mainly for light aircraft, charter and community flights rather than large scheduled commercial services.
The airstrip has a single grassed runway, 07/25, measuring about 410 m by 30 m, with no runway lighting and no conventional passenger terminal. Operations are domestic and visual-flight based, reflecting the airport's role as a link for small highland communities.
Bambu is located in the highlands of Madang Province, with no direct roads connecting it to major towns. The provincial capital, Madang, is roughly 105 km away, while the nearest larger town, Kainantu, is about 84 km to the southwest; access is normally by light aircraft, on foot or through community-arranged transport.
Travellers should expect very limited facilities and plan accordingly. Papua New Guinea operates on UTC+10, and onward journeys from Bambu usually need to be arranged in advance with local guides, operators or contacts.
