Nyaung U Airport (NYU)

Nyaung U Airport is the main airport serving Bagan, one of Myanmar's most important cultural and archaeological destinations. Located near the town of Nyaung-U in the Mandalay Region, it functions as the primary air gateway for travelers visiting the ancient temples and pagodas spread across the Bagan plain. The airport operates as a small domestic facility with a single terminal and a single runway. It handles scheduled flights linking Bagan with Yangon, Mandalay, Heho, and Thandwe, and does not currently serve international routes. The terminal's architecture reflects a traditional Burmese temple style, giving arriving passengers an immediate sense of the region's heritage. Nyaung U Airport sits about 4.5 km southeast of Nyaung-U town and roughly 6–9 km from Old Bagan, making onward travel to hotels and temple areas relatively quick. Taxis, hotel pickups, private transfers, and rental cars are the main ways to continue from the airport. Although compact, the terminal offers essential passenger services including a departure lounge, dining and snack options, souvenir shops, and free Wi-Fi, supporting a straightforward arrival and departure experience for visitors exploring the Bagan Archaeological Zone.
