About Attawapiskat Airport
Attawapiskat Airport serves the remote Attawapiskat First Nation, a Cree community on the James Bay coast of northern Ontario. The airport provides a vital year-round air link for residents and visitors, with scheduled and charter flights connecting the community to regional centres.
Located adjacent to the community, the airport is compact and practical, with one gravel runway measuring approximately 3,495 by 100 feet. Flights are operated by regional carriers including Wasaya Airways, Air Creebec and Thunder Airlines, and the facility is used for passenger travel, cargo and essential services.
Because Attawapiskat has no year-round road access, the airport is especially important during warmer months. In winter, the community can also be reached by ice road, but flying remains a key way for people and supplies to arrive throughout the year.
The airport has a small building that provides office space and shelter for travelers, while aircraft are parked on the apron beside the runway. As a small community airport, it offers limited passenger amenities, so onward transport within Attawapiskat is best arranged in advance.
