About Saint Helena Airport
Saint Helena Airport is the primary air gateway to Saint Helena, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. Opened in 2016, it replaced a five-day sea voyage from Cape Town with a direct air link and welcomed its first scheduled commercial flight in October 2017.
The airport is located on the Prosperous Bay Plain near Longwood, roughly 16 km east of the capital, Jamestown. It features a single modern passenger terminal with separate departure and arrival halls, a combined operations building, and a runway designed to handle Code C aircraft.
Airlink operates regular flights between Saint Helena and Johannesburg, with a technical stop in Windhoek, providing the island's main connection to regional and international networks. The airport is reached by road, and onward travel to Jamestown and other parts of the island is available by taxi, pre-arranged shuttle or private transfer.
Passenger facilities include a café, duty-free and retail shopping, Bank of St Helena currency exchange, a tourist office, accessible facilities and a viewing deck with views across the airfield and the Atlantic Ocean, making the airport a compact and practical entry point for visitors to the island.
