About Grantley Adams International Airport
Grantley Adams International Airport is Barbados's only international airport and the main air gateway to the island and the wider Eastern Caribbean. Located in Seawell, Christ Church, about 13 km from Bridgetown's city centre, it connects Barbados with destinations across the Caribbean, North America and Europe.
The airport traces its origins to Seawell Airport, where the first scheduled passenger service began in 1939. The current air traffic control tower was completed in 1976, when the airport was renamed in honour of Sir Grantley Adams, and a new terminal opened in 1979. Today the airport operates around the clock with two interconnected terminal buildings and 22 ground-level gates.
Passengers can reach Bridgetown and other parts of the island by taxi, public bus, hotel shuttle, private transfer or rental car. Taxis take roughly 25–30 minutes to the city centre, while buses are a lower-cost option for the same journey.
The terminal offers duty-free shopping, dining, lounges, free Wi-Fi and family facilities, making it a convenient arrival point for visitors heading to the island's south coast, west coast resorts and other destinations.
